Cockatiel Bird Cages – Tips to Finding the Perfect Cage for Your Feathered Friend
Cockatiel bird cages are designed to help your pet feel safe and comfortable, so the size of the cage is very important. The general rule is the cage should measure a minimum of 1.5 times the bird’s wing span. Her head should not brush the top of the cage nor should her tail feathers touch the sides. Other tips to remember are:
[1] A square cage allows the bird to nest in the corners, making her feel more secure.
[2] Plastic-coated wires look nicer and are easier to clean.
[3] Bars should be no more than 1/ 4 inches apart to prevent strangulation.
[4] The aviary needs to be at least 20 inches high to allow for 2 levels of perches.
[5] A grate positioned at the bottom allows droppings to fall to the floor while the bird sits on a cleaner surface.
[6] Keep your pet’s home away from direct sunlight and drafty areas.
