Large bird cage maintenance can be a huge pain in the ass. When you’re cleaning the birds house, assuming you have a massive bird that generally lives inside of it, what the hell are you supposed to with it (the bird) while you clean the cage? My brother had a parrot for a pet when we were growing up and yes, it was comical whenever he’d randomly say stupid words, but cleaning the birds cage was annoying. My parents were mostly amazed at how well he and I managed to maintain the cleanliness of the large bird cage, although it’s relatively easy when the bird is small. I can’t imagine changing the bird cage bedding with a large bird. Are you supposed to hog tie the bird in the mean time or just let it flap around the room like a kamikaze?

I understand the theory in owning a large bird cage in an effort to give your pet more room to roam. And not confining an animal that was intended to fly to such a limited amount of space makes perfect sense. However, I also think that the lady that had her face chewed off shouldn’t have owned a chimp in the first place and same goes for Grizzly Man. I’m not here to tell anyone what kind of pets to own, just to shed a little light on firsthand experience with owning large bird cages.

My first experience with birds was probably Big Bird, from the hit series ‘Sesame Street’ on PBS. I believe this is what triggered me into wanting a bird as a pet. My previous attempt at caretaking for an animal failed when my cat ran away, as did my brother’s first dog. My parents only agreed on a bird because it could be caged. Ironically, my favorite WWF wrestler at the time was KoKo B. Ware, who was famous for coming to the ring with a large, colorful bird on his shoulder.

A large bird cage can range in size from 4 ft. tall to 400 ft. tall. A lot of ex-convicts might even consider their prison cell a large bird cage. Video games, tourist attractions and even wrestling events to this day use steel cages to confine animals, people and guarded merchandise. If know what it takes to clean massive bird houses, have the room in your house and can find the materials to make a bird cage cover, it’s a good idea to give your pet as much room as possible. Accessorizing a large bird cage with custom bird cage accessories can become pricey too. At first, having a pet bird might seem like cheap, easily maintainable alterative to a dog or cat, but even a cockatiel bird cage takes time, preparation and maintenance.
